She was very interested in hearing about Thanet ADDers and said that she had attended a number of seminars about AD/HD. She felt that the early diagnosis of this disorder was vital and had recently written to the Health Visitors in her area to advise them on early signs and where to seek advice. She was also aware that there are not enough specialists in this area to diagnose this disorder, and hoped that this would be rectified soon.
Dr.Farebrother hopes to set up a meeting in the near future with representatives from Education, Social Services and Health to see if a common policy document can be agreed as to the treatment and help which can be offered to children with AD/HD, as she feels that the condition itself crosses the borders of all of these departments. She asked if Simon and myself would be able to attend this meeting to help by providing input from a parents point of view.
I feel that the meeting was a big step in getting all agencies to work together for the benefit of all sufferers and families of Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder.
