Teenagers in Trouble - Skills for Parents

Produced in conjunction with the trust for the study of adolescence and the youth justice board, this video looks at how parents can learn more about their teenage children and therefore an essential part in reducing youth offending.

This video used as a resource for parents skills courses or individual parents who have found that their teenage son or daughter are troubled or in difficulty.

The video shows various scenarios played by actors with discussions for parents on each of the issues raised. This allows for open discussion which can lead to the sharing of various strategies which have helped others. This can promote open dialogue and the chance to offer support to others as well as a forum for learning from others and the giving and receiving of support weaving the feelings of guilt and isolation. In turn the same powers parents to help, encourage and support for a teenager who is experiencing difficulties.

Topics include: - feelings, communication, negotiation, parental disagreements, neighbourhood and their influences and help and support.

If we can learn to understand some of the human feelings which are children appear to have difficulty in discussing with their parents we can begin to see things from their point of view and this gives confidence from more open dialogue between the adolescent an apparent.

The video comes with a guide for facilitate as of groups and a booklet for parents which up comprehensive and well written to stimulate discussion and encourage open dialogue to help individuals gain from others experiences and work together to pat various strategies to help work for closer relationships between parent and they children.

This is an excellent resource for groups or individuals who care for and want to learn more about how they can understand and support their children.
